UGA/VGA Recalibration
At this first round of meetings, we outlined the process we’ll use to 1) review existing growth area boundaries and 2) recommend potential changes in these boundaries.
The steps in the process are listed below. The first five focus on documenting existing conditions – where we stand in terms of buildable area, redevelopment potential, infrastructure, and other factors. Steps 6 and 7 address the amount of land we need, and whether we recommend any boundary changes. The final steps are designed to implement these changes and other policy goals.
12-Step Growth Area Recalibration Process
- Map presently undeveloped, buildable, infill sites.
- Analyze potential redevelopment sites.
- Update growth area edge analyses.
- Review fragmented sections of growth areas.
- Overlay infrastructure constraints and opportunities.
- Quantify land area needed.
- Determine if any places should be removed.
- Identify any new Growth Opportunity Areas.
- Research existing zoning requirements.
- Determine any needed character zone reassignments.
- Complete an analysis of housing choices.
- Implement development and redevelopment strategies.
