ATAC Candidate Information
Calling all bicyclists, avid walkers, bus riders and wheelchair users!
The Lancaster County Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) is looking for new members!
What is active transportation?
Active transportation is human-powered movement between where you are and where you want to go. This includes any trip you make on foot and any trip where you use a bicycle, scooter, wheelchair, or other assistive device to help you move. Active transportation is often used to reach buses and trains for longer journeys.
What is ATAC?
ATAC informs the Lancaster County Metropolitan Planning Organization (Lancaster MPO). The Lancaster MPO is a coalition between governments, transportation agencies, and local partners with an interest in our transportation system. ATAC is an advisory committee on transportation plans, programs, and projects brought before the Lancaster MPO as part of the federal transportation planning process. It was established to provide guidance to the Lancaster MPO on issues related to non-motorized modes of transportation (walking, biking, wheeling) and oversee implementation of the Lancaster Active Transportation Plan (ATP).
“Lancaster is a vibrant, diverse, and active community where people of all ages and abilities can move safely and conveniently through an interconnected network of pedestrian, bicycle, and transit facilities that promote healthy living and economic vitality.” - Lancaster ATP Vision Statement (Page 1-11) (You can learn more about and read the Lancaster ATP here Version Options ATAC Candidate Information HeadlineCalling all Bicyclists, avid walkers, bus riders and wheelchair users!.) |
Purpose
ATAC is not a policy-making body or local advocacy group. It is an advisory group comprised of nine Lancaster County residents that bike, walk, wheel, and ride buses or trains. Members use their personal and professional experiences to provide feedback and offer recommendations to staff and the other Lancaster MPO committees.
Commitment
An appointment to ATAC is for a four-year term to begin in 2026 and end on December 31, 2029.
ATAC will meet five times in 2026 on second Thursdays at 6:00pm with virtual and in-person attendance options.
