Something I've always taken notice to whenever I visit new cities is their 'welcome signs'. It can really give you a sense of excitement whenever you're charting into a new town or it can be as deflating as the city itself. Think of it as you will, it is an opportunity to excite new visitors and give locals some civic pride every time they pass it along their daily route. I have a vision of making our most vibrant 'welcome sign' in the perfect place. When you exit route 30 and head East on Harrisburg Ave, as you pass Long's Park on your left and the Post Office on your right, I'm talking about the overpass that the rail line goes over. Right now, it's a blighted pukey beige/green steel overpass, but I would love for the opportunity to put together funding to add our premier Welcome to Lancaster signage on that overpass. I would paint the existing steel overpass and a vibrant sign that shines bright at night. The surrounding concrete would also get a face lift. How can I start this?!?!
