Connects2050 is our plan to meet the mobility needs of people and goods in Lancaster County over the next few decades. We use the information we gathered for this plan to coordinate with our partners and direct approximately $81 million in funding per year. This funding goes towards maintenance and improvement of our transportation system.

The plan analyzes how changes in the regional economy, social trends, and new technologies need to be considered as our transportation system develops. We looked at how our infrastructure and services of bike paths, roads, and bus routes will need to be modified to adapt to these changes.

Connects2050 focuses on eight policy areas:

  1. Safety
  2. Reliable Travel
  3. Transportation Choices
  4. Environmental Protection
  5. System Maintenance
  6. Critical Connections
  7. Meeting Performance Goals
  8. Quality of Service

Within the plan, each of these policy areas has a list of strategies for the community to carry out over the next 25 years. The Lancaster MPO is organizing many groups in our community to implement this plan.

The plan comes from the input of many people across the county. A survey was of the general public was conducted for the review of its major ideas and strategies. Staff at the Lancaster County Planning Department also held a review for the plan via an extensive advertising campaign that included local print newspaper, a variety of social media platforms, and asking municipalities and libraries to put up posters. Staff also conducted outreach in person at multiple community events, including a local Active Transportation Summit and the Lancaster Open Streets festival. We worked with the Lancaster County Planning Commission (LCPC), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and PennDOT while writing the plan. Connects2050 is the result of this collaborative process.
