Comprehensive Plans

We’d like regional and local comprehensive plans to follow a “nested” approach. Rather than starting from scratch, these plans can follow the same outline as places2040 – and focus on many of the same policies. With limited resources at the county and local level, we think this approach is the most efficient way to update these plans.

The reality is, most of us agree on what we need to do. We all want to preserve farms and natural land and keep our urban places vibrant. Places2040 already acknowledges these topics, so regional and local plans following the nested approach can focus on the things that makes their communities unique and different.

To learn more about adopted comprehensive plans in the county, visit the Comprehensive Plan Dashboard. The dashboard includes two online maps that identify adopted regional and local plans.
